Where to catch tuna

• Dalmatian Adriatic, Croatia. Boats out of Split, Zadar and the islands run for bluefin that regularly go from 15 kg to well over 100 kg. Amberjack, mahi mahi and swordfish appear in the warm months too.
• Offshore trolling lanes. Temperature breaks, bait schools and current edges decide where the fish show. Local skippers already know the productive lanes for each week of the season.
• Inshore warm-water action. Not every tuna day is far offshore. Some seasons push fish closer to the islands, where lighter big-game tactics still apply.
