Where to catch perch
- Sweden. Lakes and Baltic coasts hold jumbo perch. Archipelago edges, harbour walls and deep lake drop-offs all produce, especially in spring and autumn.
- Mazury Lakes, Poland. Connected lake systems full of weed lines, sunken timber and boat traffic lanes that concentrate baitfish. Ideal multi-species days with pike and zander.
- Denmark and the southern Baltic. Coastal structure and harbour basins hold strong perch that respond well to softbaits and small crankbaits.
Season: month by month
| Months | Conditions | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| March – May | Post-spawn and spring schools near shallow edges. Excellent light-tackle fishing. | Peak |
| June – August | Fish hold deeper around structure. Early and late in the day fish best. | Good |
| September – November | Classic big-perch season. Cooling water, aggressive fish, bigger baits. | Peak |
| December – February | Slow deep-water fishing; ice fishing where legal in the north. | Good |
Techniques and gear
Softbaits on light jig heads, small crankbaits and drop-shot rigs cover most situations. A 6–8 ft light spinning rod and thin braid give the best feel around structure.
Guides with a boat and sonar find the schools faster than shore anglers ever will, especially on big lake systems where perch roam with the baitfish.
