Fishing in Denmark

No point in Denmark is more than 50 km from the sea — and nearly all of that sea holds sea trout. Add a world-class restored salmon river and the Baltic's best trolling port, and you get far more fishing than the map suggests.

Sea trout — Fyn, Zealand and the fjords

Fyn is the original "sea trout island": over 1,000 km of coastline managed for anglers for decades, with reliable fishing and superb access. Zealand's north coast and the quiet fjords (Isefjord, Roskilde) fish just as well with fewer visitors. This is wading fishing — reading wind, current and bottom, moving until you find feeding fish.

Bornholm — big fish in the Baltic

The granite island east of the mainland has the highest density of shore spots in the Baltic and a legendary early-spring run of big sea trout. The same waters host Denmark's trolling fleet: boats out of Tejn and Nexø target open-water Baltic salmon from late winter, with fish over 15 kg every season.

Skjern Å — the salmon comeback

Western Jutland's Skjern Å was once nearly lost to channelisation; after Denmark's largest river restoration it again produces Atlantic salmon over a metre long every year. Spring fish are the prize, and the quota system keeps the fishery healthy. Nearby, the Karup Å is famous for huge night-time sea trout.

Salt water everywhere — cod, flatfish and garfish

The Øresund strait between Copenhagen and Sweden offers year-round boat fishing for cod protected from trawling — plus flatfish, and in May the garfish invasion turns every coast into light-tackle fun. Easy, family-friendly charter fishing 20 minutes from the capital.
