Sea trout — the southern coasts
The Skåne coast is the flagship: sea trout within casting range of the shore from autumn to spring, no licence needed. The Öresund strait and the east coast up through Blekinge extend the water almost endlessly. Wading the shallows at dawn with a coastal lure or shrimp fly is the signature Swedish fishing experience.
Pike — archipelagos and big lakes
Brackish Baltic bays grow pike big, mean and numerous. The Stockholm and St. Anna archipelagos are world-class trophy water, fished from boats in spring and autumn. Inland, giant lakes like Vänern and thousands of smaller waters mean there is serious pike fishing within an hour of anywhere in the country.
Salmon — Mörrum and the wild north
Mörrumsån in Blekinge is one of Europe's most famous salmon rivers, with Baltic salmon over 15 kg and a season from spring to autumn. In the far north, the free-flowing Torne, Kalix and Byske rivers get powerful midsummer runs — wilder fishing, fewer anglers, midnight sun.
Perch, zander and grayling
Sweden's "everyday" fishing would be a headline anywhere else: big perch on drop-shot and jigs in the archipelagos, zander at dusk in the lowland lakes, and grayling in the northern rivers alongside wild brown trout. Ice fishing turns the whole country into new water from January to March.
